Shakespeare or boots?

Why not both? In Dostoevesky’s The Possessed Stepan Verkhovensky asks, in defense of beauty over utilitarianism,  “[W]hat is more beautiful, Shakespeare or boots, Raphael or petroleum?” I know this is moving from the sublime to the ridiculous, but hooray for non-utilitarian, beautiful boots!

I will never look at boots again without thinking of this posting. What a neat, really helpful idea and a fine design! Reminds me, in a way, of the culinary posters of the 1700s, a whole poster of Cakes, or Fish, or — y’know, I just like Categories, base-case. They’re beautiful.
