The Vengetables

Our oldest boy has long been reluctant to eat his vegetables, which he calls “vengetables.” I thought he was just getting the word wrong, but maybe he knows something I don’t. (He and Chesterton, who refers in The Napoleon of Notting Hill to “shedding. . .the green blood of the silent animals.”)

    Or a potato, ha ha. Do you know, I actually paused over the tomato, reflecting that it is technically a fruit. But I decided, as the Supreme Court did in 1893, that in common usage a tomato passes as a vegetable;D.
